A source of confusion among business process practitioners, a Capability refers to some ability that an organization possesses. Some define it as a skill or knowledge possessed by a functional division of the organization while others define it as an activity that could be part of a business process. In either case, to determine if a capability is useful or not, one needs to undertake a process analysis and determine if the capability is, in fact, tied to activities that produce value for customers or other stakeholders of the organization.
