Most processes can be subdivided into their parts, or sub-processes. Everyone has a slightly different way of ordering the various levels of processes. The one we use is illustrated below.
It used to be common to use terms like sub-process and sub-sub-process, but it is now more common to use a convention originated by the Supply Chain Council, and refer to the sub-processes of a value chain as Level 1 Processes, and then to the sub-processes of the Level 1 Processes as Level 2 Processes, and so forth.
