BPM and Organizational Maturity
In their initial Column, John Alden and Bill Curtis provide an overview of the Business Process Maturity Model and describe the five levels of maturity .

Dr. Bill Curtis and Dr. John Alden are Founding Partner of Capability Measurement.
Dr. Curtis is an internationally recognized authority on organizational maturity and process capability. Until recently, he was the Chief Process Officer of Borland Software Corporation and remains their Chief Process Advisor. Previously, he was a Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of TeraQuest Metrics in Austin Texas. (TeraQuest was acquired by Borland in 2005.) Dr. Curtis is a former Director of the Software Process Program at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a co-author of Carnegie Mellon's Capability Maturity Model for Software, the principal architect of the People CMM, and a co-author of TeraQuest's Business Process Maturity Model. Prior to joining the SEI, Dr. Curtis directed research on advanced user interface technologies and the software design process at MCC, developed a global software productivity and quality measurement system at ITT's Programming Technology Center, developed software measurement capabilities in GE's Space Division, conducted Organizational Effectiveness programs at Weyerhaeuser, and taught statistics at the University of Washington. He has co-authored four books, published over 150 papers, and is a frequent keynote speaker.
Dr. Alden is a strategic business leader with an innate understanding of the challenges of integrating strategy, people, process and technology to create economic value. Immediately prior to founding Capability Measurement, Dr. Alden served as a senior research fellow at Accenture's Institute for Strategic Change and as an Associate Partner in the Human Performance Global Service Line. At Accenture, he led a team that developed the Human Capital Diagnostic Framework, a framework that has been deployed globally. He has lead more than 40 major business process improvement and redesign projects during the past decade, served as an independent consultant to TeraQuest and Borland during and after the time of acquisition and served as an SME on two recent APQC benchmark studies. Dr. Alden has broad and extensive experience across in technology, business process and human capital management.
